Helen Mae Cranford Dale

Dale_HelenHelen Mae Cranford Dale, 99, of Canal Winchester, Ohio, passed away peacefully Monday, June 30, 2014, after a brief illness. Mrs. Dale was born January 13, 1915 in Degnan, Oklahoma, the third child born to Reverend Silas E. and Mrs. Irca M (Thompson) Cranford. She was raised near Morgantown, West Virginia, graduated from Beechhurst High School, and attended West Virginia State College in Institute, West Virginia.

Mrs. Dale was joined in marriage to Mr. Alphonse Dale on October 30, 1936, and to this union three children were born. After relocating to Lorain in 1954, she became an active member of Second Baptist Church, where she taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School for many years. She was a dedicated member of Buckeye Chapter #46, OES, for more than 35 year, once serving as Worthy Matron. She was also a founding member of the 50+ Club, and enjoyed fellowshipping with the “Sit, Sip and Stitch Club”.

Of all of her accomplishments, she was most proud of her awards in penmanship, including two certificates and her scholarship to West Virginia State College.

Mrs. Dale was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Mr. Alphonse Dale; and her daughter, Jennifer C. Dale-Jeffries.

Mrs. Dale is survived by two children, Alphonse E. Dale of Oberlin; and Patricia A. Mitchell of Canal Winchester; four grandchildren, Victoria F. Murray, of Columbus; David W. (Delorse) Murray of Canal Winchester; Dr. Rodney M. (Dr. Emina) Dale of Chicago; and Helen R. (Dwight) Jeffries-Holloway of Pickerington, Ohio; six great-grandchildren; two brothers, Marcus A. (Jacqueline) Cranford of Morganton West Virginia and S. Warren Cranford of Staten Island, New York; one sister, Phyllis I. Cooper of Reynoldsburg; and host of family and friends who will miss her dearly.

Friends will be received Monday, July 7, 2014, 10 A.M., at Second Baptist Church, 300 13th Street, Lorain. Her Service of Triumphant will begin at 11 A.M., with Pastor Henry L. Johnson, of Union Grove Baptist Church, Columbus, officiating. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery.
