Elyria blotter: Resident reports home burglarized while she was in basement

  • 12:20 a.m. — 900 block Riverside Drive, a woman told police she was in the basement of her residence with four grandchildren when she heard a creaking noise upstairs. After calling to see whether it was her husband and getting no response, the woman went upstairs and found a rear window pried open and a black male leaving the home, police reports said. The woman yelled at the man, who ran off. She told police her purse containing $70 cash, a checkbook and several credit cards was missing.
  • 6:20 p.m. — Chestnut Commons Drive. Jonathan Barnette, 32, Ravenna, cited for theft after security personnel at Wal-Mart told police the man attempted to leave the store without paying for a $200 Go-Pro camera he concealed in his pocket.
