Cavaliers set Summer League roster

CLEVELAND — Andrew Wiggins and Anthony Bennett will be the marquee attractions on the Cavaliers’ team at the NBA Las Vegas Summer League from July 11-21.

Kansas small forward Wiggins was the No. 1 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft, while UNLV power forward Bennett went first to Cleveland one year earlier.

This marks the initial time in Summer League history — including Las Vegas, Orlando, Fla., and the now-defunct Salt Lake City circuit — that back-to-back top selections will play on the same squad.

The Cavs announced their 12-man roster for the event Tuesday, just three days before they take the court against Milwaukee at the Cox Pavilion on the campus of UNLV.

Point guard Matthew Dellavedova, shooting guard Carrick Felix and small forwards Sergey Karasev and Scotty Hopson — members of Cleveland’s regular-season roster in 2013-14 — will also suit up for new Cavs coach David Blatt.

Second-round pick Joe Harris, a shooting guard from Virginia, rounds out the septet of players who already have guaranteed spots at Cleveland’s training camp in October.

The summer squad also includes small forward Shane Edwards, who spent nine days with the Cavs in March, and point guard Will Cherry from Cleveland’s owned-and-operated NBA D-League affiliate in Canton.

Rounding out the roster are undrafted rookie center Alex Kirk and two players who spent last winter playing overseas:
Trabzonspor (Turkey) power forward Jack Cooley and BCM Gravelines (France) shooting guard Steven Gray.

Joining Blatt on the bench are associate head coach Tyronn Lue, Jim Boylan, Bret Brielmaier, Phil Handy, Vitaly Potapenko and Canton assistant James Posey.

Cleveland is guaranteed to play five games at the event, all of which will air live on NBA TV. In addition to playing the Bucks on Friday at 8 p.m., the Cavs battle the Spurs on Sunday at 4 p.m. and the 76ers on Monday at 8 p.m.

The double-elimination Summer League playoffs take place from July 16-21.
