Mary Bernadette Hartmann (nee Mitchell), 92, of Wellington, passed away Sunday, July 6, 2014, at the Elms Nursing Home in Wellington, of natural causes. She was born May 7, 1922 in Narberth, Pennsylvania, to Patrick and Jane Mitchell (nee Mullen). She resided in the Wellington area with her loving family for the majority of her long and full life.
Mary attended high school at Merion Mercy Academy in Merion, Pennsylvania and graduated in 1940. She graduated from the St. Joseph College School of Nursing in 1952. She then began work at St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida, where she met and married Dr. Harry Edward Hartmann, M.D. and surgeon, in June of 1954. They settled in Wellington and founded the Elms Nursing Home in the early 1960s, but sold the business a few years after opening. Upon Dr. Hartmann’s death in August 1980, Mary began working at the Elms Nursing Home and retired in 2004 at the age of 82. Over her long career, she held several positions, from RN to Administrator. Her dedication, hard work, and strong work ethic inspired many.
She is survived by her brother, John Mitchell and sister-in-law, Judy Mitchell of Port St. Lucie, Florida; sister-in-law, Mary Mitchell of Haverford, Pennsylvania; son, Michael Hartmann and fiancee, Annette Angel Cusick of Aspen, Colorado; daughter, Jane Siniard (nee Hartmann) of Elyria; grandsons, Anthony Smith of Elyria, Matthew Siniard of Elyria; granddaughter, Lexie Siniard of Grafton.
Mary B. Hartmann was predeceased by her loving husband of 26 years, Dr. Harry Edward Hartmann M.D.; father, Patrick Mitchell; mother, Jane Mitchell (nee Mullen) and brother, Joseph Mitchell.
