The eight people appeared before Judge Gary Bennett on Friday for preliminary hearings and were charged with aggravated rioting in connection with a disturbance that led to Strupe’s death.
Police Capt. Chris Costantino said the eight suspects were at the scene of Strupe’s murder but were not thought to have played a role in the deadly assault. However, Costantino added the group did nothing to prevent the fatal attack and may have even encouraged it.
Megan White, 25, and Adrian Smith, 24, both of Elyria, had their cases bound over a county grand jury for probable cause, according to Bennett.
Dean Martin Jr., 27, Iesha Newson, 23, and Richard Webber, 26, all of Elyria, waived their preliminary hearings, which will send their cases before a grand jury as well.
Tyler Wells, 23, of Cleveland, Anthony McShepard, 21, and Davonte Gray, 21, both of Elyria, had their preliminary hearings continued at the request of their attorneys, according to Bennett.
Strupe, 24, was fatally wounded by a gunshot wound to his back July 1 during a late-night incident in the 1100 block of Garden Street.
An investigation by Elyria police led them to conclude Strupe was found in a Garden Street house by four men who held him against his will before taking him outside where they shot him.
Todd Wells, 21, Markus Martin, 26, Tristen Belfiore, 17, and Anthony Marcano, 22, all have been charged with murder, kidnapping and aggravated burglary in Strupe’s death.
Todd Wells is being held without bond.
