WELLINGTON — The LorMet Community Credit Union in Wellington was robbed Saturday.

Wellington Police Chief Mike Barrett said the robber entered the credit union, 216 N. Main St., shortly before noon and demanded money from a bank teller, who initially refused to give him any money.

Barrett said the man then told the teller that he didn’t want to hurt anyone and reached behind his back. No weapon was brandished, but the comment was enough to convince the teller to hand over the cash to the robber.

After being given the money, the man walked out of the credit union.

The robber was described in an FBI news release as being a heavyset white man between 6 feet and 6 feet, 4 inches tall with a black goatee. He was wearing a gray T-shirt, khaki shorts, a baseball cap and sunglasses. He also might have a pronounced limp, according to the FBI.

A witness told investigators the man was seen driving a red Chevy S-10 pickup from the late 1990s. The truck was described as having heavy rust and a white cap with a red stripe, Barrett said.

Based on the information police have, Barrett said he’s hopeful that an arrest will be made soon.

“We’re pretty confident,” he said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Wellington police at (440) 647-2244 or the FBI at (216) 522-1400.

A reward is being offered for information that leads to the identification and prosecution of the robber, the FBI news release said.

I don’t feel sorry for Lormet They left Lorain because they consider it a low life city and spent millions in Amherst. Now how do you feel being robbed in Wellington. tell ur teller next time she should just give it up or she may get someone hurt I mean really haven’t all tellers been taught that

You are indeed correct! I was a teller over 20 years ago and the first thing they told us was to turn over the money, do not try to be a hero, the money can be replaced you can’t! I was shocked to read that the teller initially refused to comply, I would think that could be terms for dismissal.
