Police wouldn’t release a report on the stabbing Monday or say whether anyone was arrested, but the victim’s aunt identified him as Jodeci Daniels. Asia Kilgore said her nephew was visiting from Atlanta and had been living at her home at 1662 E. 30th St. since June 7.
Police were called to the home about 3:45 p.m. Sunday. They said Daniels was uncooperative with them, but told Mercy Regional Medical Center personnel that he was stabbed by a cousin.
Kilgore said Daniels told her he had given his cousin money for marijuana and a fight began when the 18-year-old cousin refused to give him the marijuana or his money back. The cousin, nicknamed “Spunky,” stabbed Daniels in the right side of the chest with a knife at the cousin’s home, Kilgore said.
“If it was on the left side, he probably wouldn’t have made it,” she said.
Kilgore said Daniels suffered a collapsed right lung and a punctured liver and was moved from Mercy to the intensive care unit of MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland. Daniels was in good condition Monday night, a Metro nursing supervisor said.
Kilgore said Daniels is a nonviolent person who worked for FedEx in Atlanta and was studying for his GED. She said he loves to skateboard and recently competed in a skateboarding contest in California. Neighbors said Daniels was frequently seen skateboarding in the street in front of the home.
