He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. Leaving the U.S. Navy at the end of the war, he became a skilled journeyman carpenter, working for many contractors throughout the area. He enjoyed furniture making, metal working, gardening, fishing, quilling and oil painting.
Claire is survived by a son, Jeff B. Hurd of Elyria; and a sister Betty Seybert of Canton.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Anna P. Hurd in 2007; and an infant son, Douglas A. Hurd.
Burial was in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria.
Dicken Funeral Home, Elyria, was in charge of arrangements.
