Homeless man found dead in abandoned Lorain building

LORAIN — A 56-year-old homeless Lorain man found dead in an abandoned building at 341 W. 23rd St. about 8:20 p.m. Wednesday is believed to have died from natural causes.

The man, who police wouldn’t identify Wednesday night, was found in a second-floor abandoned apartment above the former Highland Grill, Detective Sgt. Buddy Sivert said. The bar closed in 2011.

Sivert said the man’s relatives last saw him alive Friday. Sivert said they told him the man was an alcoholic with health problems.

The body was found by children playing in the building. The identity of the man is expected to be released today.
