Mary Sosnowski

Sosnowski_MaryMary Sosnowski, 99, of Lorain, passed away Tuesday, July 15, 2014, at Avon Oaks Nursing Home. Mary was born December 7, 1914 in Browndale, Pennsylvania, to Michael and Ann (nee Warhola) Verib.

She was an accomplished seamstress and worked as a supervisor for several garment Industries in Lorain. Many young women wore costumes designed by her for the Lorain International Festival as well as the many brides that walked down the aisle in a custom gown sewn by Mary.

Mary was a member of St. Mary Church, Lorain. She enjoyed volunteering for the American Red Cross and had over 1000 hours of volunteer work with the Red Cross. She was also an active member volunteer for Catholic Charities, working to feed the less fortunate.

She is survived by her daughter, Dorothea (Douglas) Butts, of Irmo, South Carolina; sons, Thomas (Linda) Sosnowski, of Laguna Niguel, California and Jon (Linda) Sosnowski, of Amherst; grandchildren, Kristin (Steve) Georgi, Courtney (Ryan) Fernan, Jonathan (Amanda) Butts, Meredith (Michael) Pratt, Lorraine (Michael) Dunn, Matthew Sosnowski, Ryan (Carrie) Sosnowski and Lindsay Sosnowski; great-grandchildren, Kate, Grace and Ryan Georgi, Riley and Grady Fernan and Madeline and Samantha Dunn; brothers, Joseph and Michael Verib and sisters, Veronica Burko and Elaine Prince.

Mary was preceded in death by her husband, John Sosnowski in 1981; grandson, Timothy Sosnowski; sisters, Anna, Bertha and Helen and brothers, George and Joseph.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, July 19, 2014, 10 A.M., at St. Mary Church, 309 W. 7th Street, Lorain. The Reverend Father Daniel Divis, Pastor, will be the Celebrant. Inurnment will follow at Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
