Avon mayor says bridge will be done by school’s start

AVON — Officials said they still expect the Riegelsberger Road bridge to open before school starts in August.

Avon Mayor Bryan Jensen said weather has delayed the project, but it should still open by the end of August. Jensen said the bridge is being replaced, the road will be widened with a turn lane added, and there will be sidewalks installed on both sides.

The bridge, which crosses French Creek and provides access to Jaycox Road, was narrow and had only two lanes. Officials say the new bridge will be safer.

“It’s scheduled to open right before school starts in August, and we’re doing everything we can to make sure that happens,” Jensen said. “We don’t want the school buses to have to deal with the issue of having to find an alternate route.”

According to prior Council minutes, a bid of $986,700 was approved for the project in February for Schirmer Construction to do the work.
