ELYRIA — A man is accused of beating his ex-girlfriend and then kidnapping a man to escape around 7 p.m. Tuesday.

The incident occurred in the parking lot of the Eagles Club, 1255 Lowell St., according to a police report. Amanda Klein said she pulled into the lot to meet her parents for dinner and was confronted by Terron Groves, whom Klein said she broke up with three weeks ago after dating since 2002.

Klein, who police said had a bloody right ear, said Groves pounded on the front windshield of her car until it started to crack then punched her in the ear when she got out of the car. Klein said Groves punched Jared Hessler who came out of the club to protect her. Hessler said he didn’t want to press charges.

Groves is then accused of abducting Brett McCall who had just driven into the parking lot. McCall said Groves told him he had a weapon, got into the passenger seat of McCall’s car and ordered him to drive away. Police said they stopped the car on Lowell Street and arrested Groves and charged him with abduction, domestic violence and criminal damaging.

Groves, 34, of the 100 block of Furnace Street, has an extensive criminal history including convictions for aggravated robbery, negligent assault and cocaine trafficking. Groves was being held without bond Wednesday at the Lorain County Jail.
