John served in the U.S. Navy and fought in the Korean Conflict. A photographer by trade, he worked as Chief Photographer for the Chronicle Telegram for 25 years, and for Sports Illustrated. He received many awards throughout his career, including a prestigious honor at the Pro Football Hall of Fame. His love of photography lead him to teach at the Virginia Marti College in Rocky River for the last 10 years.
John was an avid hobbyist who loved nature. He enjoyed bird watching, collecting, and was active in Boy Scouts, serving as the District Leader of Firelands Boy Scouts.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Dolores (nee Ritchie); children, John G., Jr. (Tonya), Denise Dingel (Bill), Darlene Voelz (Tony), and Donna Smith (Larry); eight grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and sister, Martha DiPaula (Danny) of New York.
Private Services will be held for John at Busch Funeral Home, Elyria.
