Ferguson_Volney 1Ferguson_Volney 2OBIT FLAGVolney G. Ferguson, 78, of Grafton, passed away Thursday, July 24, 2014 at Main Street Care Center of Avon Lake, following a lengthy illness. He was born March 9, 1936 in Crossville, Tennessee.

He was a graduate of Elyria High School. Volney was a United States Army veteran serving from November 26, 1953-November 26, 1956 in the Combat engineers, serving one year in Japan. He worked for Ford Motor Co. for 30 years as a machinist. Volney was a member of the Polish Club of Elyria, Moose Club of Elyria and VFW post #1079.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Sophia (nee Garwolinski); daughter, Teresa Ferguson; grandchildren, Anthony and Mary Rourke; great-grandchildren, Remington, Carrigan and Liza Rose Rourke.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Preston and Doris (nee Redwine).

Family will receive friends from 10 to 11 A.M., Monday, July 28, 2014 in the Weigand Room of St. Marys Church, 320 Middle Ave., Elyria, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 11 A.M. The Reverend Father Charles Diedrick will be the Celebrant. Burial will be in Brookdale Cemetery, Elyria, where full military honors will be provided by VFW post #1079.
