An unidentified man was critically injured in a car crash at state Route 57 and Midway Boulevard in Elyria about 7:20 p.m. Monday.

The man was driving south on Route 57 and failed to negotiate a curve onto Midway near the Lowe’s hardware store, fire Capt. Kevin Szabo said.

The Kia sedan the man was driving struck a utility pole.

A report was unavailable Monday night, but Szabo said the man was thrown about 15 feet from the Kia and was lying on his back unconscious when firefighters arrived.

The 30-year-old man was hospitalized at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, said Herb de la Porte, Lifecare Ambulance vice president.
