Attempted abductor claimed to be police officer

LORAIN — A city woman said a man she believed was a plainclothes police officer tried to get her into the car he was driving outside 212 W. 18th St. about 6:45 p.m. Monday, according to a police report.

The 34-year-old woman said she was on her front porch smoking a cigarette when a man driving an aqua-colored two-door car drove past her, the report said. The driver did a U-turn, came back and turned on a police siren.

The woman said she approached the car. She said the man spoke broken English and asked her if she was married or home alone and then asked her to take a ride with him. The woman said she backed away.

Police said they couldn’t find the car. The driver the woman described was a light-skinned, clean-shaven Latino man wearing a blue Cleveland Indians jersey. One of his thumbs was black and blue from an injury.

Is it really accurate to describe what transpired in this particular situation as “attempted abduction?” He didn’t attempt to forcibly take this woman against her will, he asked her if she wanted to go for a ride. Take it easy CT.
