EATON TWP. — Firefighters responded to a house fire Tuesday that sent one resident to the hospital.

According to Lt. Kevin Blair of the Eaton Township Fire Department, crews were called about 2 p.m. to 36336 Butternut Ridge Road. He said they saw heavy smoke inside the house.

Eaton Township and North Ridgeville fire departments responded.

Blair said the cause of the fire is undetermined, and representatives from the Lorain County Association of Fire Investigators were called to the scene to rule out suspicious activity.

One unidentified man was transported to University Hospitals Elyria Medical Center for superficial burns, Blair said. Another man at the scene talked with an arson investigator and said his wife had gone to the hospital with their son.

“He’ll be fine,” the man, who declined to provide his name, said of his injured son. “I just got home and am trying to figure it all out.”

The Carlisle Township Fire Department provided mutual aid.
