Howard D. Preslan, 87, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday, July 10, 2014 in Montrose, Colorado, following a lengthy illness. Born August 26, 1926 in Cleveland, Howard was the son of Howard E. and Helen Scranton Preslan.
His brother, Robert S. Preslan preceded him in death.
Howard is survived by his wife of 66 years, Rosella Ruth Thudium Preslan; two sons, David L. Preslan and his wife, Kathy of North Fairfield, Ohio and Gary H. Preslan and wife, Eva of Montrose, Colorado; three grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; three step-grandcildren; five step-great-grandchildren and two step-great-great-grandchildren.
An Army Veteran of World War II, Howard was a trucker, hauling steel from Pittsburgh and Cleveland to parts of Indiana, Michigan and New York. The family lived in New London, Ohio until after his retirement. After several years of snow birding in warmer parts of the country, Howard and Rosella, moved to Hemet, California to begin a new chapter of their lives. There he was active in two Masonic Lodges and related organizations and was also involved in many activities at the Methodist Church. In 2011, they moved to Montrose to be nearer to their son.
Howard will be remembered for his quick smile and willingness to work hard and to help others.
Private services are scheduled and interment will take place in Ohio.
