Stewart D. Pickeral, 63, of Spencer Road, Homerville, passed away August 16, 2013 at Cleveland Clinic’s Coronary ICU due to complications from a massive heart attack he suffered on July 5, 2013. Stewart was born to Robert and Eva (nee Jordan) Pickeral in Marion, Ohio on November 26, 1949.
He graduated from Oberlin High School in 1967. Following in his father’s footsteps, he retired from General Telephone/GTE/Verizon after working there for over 30 years. He started as a lineman and ended his career working with 9-1-1 systems in Lorain, Ottawa and various other counties in Northern Ohio.
Stewart is survived by long time special friend, Kelley Turner of Wooster; brother, Larry Pickeral of Grand Rapids, Minnesota; nephews, Brandon of Grand Rapids and Jordan of St. Louis; step-mother, Patricia Pickeral of Bethlehem, Pennsylvania; and cousin, Rayann (Jim) Troyer of West Liberty, who was like a sister to him.
In addition to his parents, his grandparents, several aunts and uncles and loyal canine companions, Buddy and Olivia, also preceded him in death.
Stew was a staunch supporter of the 2nd Amendment and an avid gun collector and NASCAR fan. His passion was riding his motorcycle and he loved to read books. He was a member of the Harley Owner’s Group (HOG), a lifetime Patron member of the National Rifle Association (NRA), lifetime member of the American Motorcycle Association (AMA), and a member of the Republican National Committee.
A memorial service will be held at 2 P.M., Saturday, August 2, 2014 at the Homerville Community Center (former Homer Township School), Spencer Road/SR 301 (just North of U.S. 224) in Homerville. Cremation services were provided by Custer-Glenn of Wooster. Following the service, his ashes will be spread in the same area where his Father’s ashes were scattered per Stewart’s request.
