Julia Velez, 86, of Lorain, passed away Wednesday, July 30, 2014, after a lengthy illness. She was born January 21, 1928, in Moravis, Puerto Rico, to Manuel and Sarah (nee Santos) Silva. Julia came to Lorain in 1954 and made her home here ever since.
Julia was a homemaker who devoted her life to raising her seven children. She loved playing bingo, gardening and especially loved cooking. She was a member of Sacred Heart Chapel.
Julia is survived by her husband of 61 years, Antonio Velez; children, Joe Velez, Angel Velez, twins, Letisia Ruiz, Zenaida Rodriquez, Elmer Velez, Noraidia Hodges, Louis Feliciano; grandchildren, Amy Velez, Angie Velez, Jennifer Hernandez, Stephanie Cornute, Natasha Guerrieri, Anthony Hodges, Rebecca Matthews, Joshua Velez, Tyler Velez, Gabriella Feliciano, and Lily Feliciano; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Ramona Visalden, Luis Silva, Anna Santos, Mary Feliciano, Fransico Silva, Tadeo Silva, and Glades Figueroa.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Judith Velez; siblings, Enrique Silva, Elenterio Silva, Tadeo Silva I, Antonia Rosario-Nieves, Sarin Ocasio, Carmen Cordero, Luz Salgado and Lolita Silva.
The Velez family will receive friends Friday, August 1, 2014, from 4 until 8 P.M., at Sacred Heart Chapel, 4301 Pearl Ave., Lorain, where a Mass of Christian Burial will be held Saturday, August 2, 2014, at 9 A.M. The Reverend Father William Thaden, Pastor, will be the Celebrant. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Lorain.
