NORTH RIDGEVILLE — Local motorists will endure yet another detour in coming weeks as the Maddock Road overpass above the Ohio Turnpike undergoes several weeks of improvements.

According to a notice issued Tuesday by B.G. Trucking & Construction Inc., of Akron, Maddock Road will close to traffic from Center Ridge to Sugar Ridge Road during the construction, slated to begin Aug. 18 and continue until Sept. 29.

Traffic will be detoured along Sugar Ridge Road to Race Road to Center Ridge Road, according to the company.

B.G. Trucking was awarded the job with a bid of $706,832, said Brian Newbacher, who works in the communications office of the Ohio Turnpike.

The company will perform repairs and upgrades to the bridge deck but will not include a total deck replacement. “They will overlay pavement onto the existing roadbed,” he said.

The project calls for other repairs to the bridge overpass as needed.

B.G. Trucking has performed similar work for the Turnpike in the past, Newbacher said.

The project marks the first time the overpass has been resurfaced since 1988, Newbacher said.

A week before the work begins, construction crews will install wooden boards under the overpass to catch any debris that might fall, Newbacher said. That work will not adversely traffic on Maddock, he said.

The bridge project is part of the state’s 2014 program of bridge repairs and resurfacing work totaling $8.7 million.

The Turnpike’s 2014 capital budget totals $110 million in roadwork, including bridge repairs, lane resurfacing and construction of the final phase of the toll road’s third lane in Lucas County in western Ohio.
