Police on the lookout for rock throwers

ELYRIA – Police are keeping an eye on Fuller Road after three people reported groups of people throwing rocks at their cars over the weekend.

The first report came Friday when a person was driving on Fuller Road near Wilkes Villa around midnight when someone threw a rock at his car.

The rock went through his open window and hit him in the arm, according to Elyria police.

The next report came Sunday around 6:30 p.m. when another driver on Fuller Road told police someone threw a few rocks at his car, hitting the passenger side and causing some damage. The driver told police a group of people – possibly under 18 – threw the rocks.

Almost two hours later on the same day, another driver said he was driving on Fuller Road when a group of people who looked like young adults and teenagers threw rocks at his car – one of which hit and cracked his windshield, according to police.

Elyria Police Capt. Chris Costantino said some of the rocks that were thrown were of “fairly big size.”

“They certainly weren’t pebbles,” he said.

Police are increasing presence in the area to keep a look out for any similar situations. They ask that anyone with information on the incidents, call police at 323-3302.

Lorain County is at a tipping point, and I don’t see the denizens ready and willing to do anything about it.

This was a pretty common thing back in the day.Delivering pizzas when I was younger the drivers knew to steer clear of going down Fuller and past Wilkes!!!!Thought it went away after the somewhat clean up there but apparently it just skipped a generation!!!!!!!!!!

Same thing happened to me in Oberlin. Oberlin PD didn’t want to do a report because “your deductible will be more than the cost to repair it”. I insisted a report be written. Bunch of little kids (under 10 years of age) were throwing rocks. One little girl admitted she threw the rock that damaged my car. Parent stated they would “talk to her about it”. My car still isn’t repaired. Whole incident left me feeling frustrated.

Too bad the parents didn’t offer to pay. I know it probably would have cost more than what it’s worth but it would have been great if you sued them – I think it would have been a valuable lesson for the child and her parents.

Just another reason to bulldoze Wilkes Villa.

Is feeling in immediate danger justifiable in this situation?
