Paul “Budd” Kleefeld

Kleefeld_ PaulOBIT FLAGPaul “Budd” Kleefeld, 91, passed away Friday, August 8, 2014 at the Wesleyan Village in Elyria. He was born November 16, 1922 in Lorain.

Budd was a graduate of Lorain High School, class of 1941. An Army World War II veteran, he served in the 87th Infantry Golden Acorn Group in Europe for the Battle of the Bulge, where he was taken as a prisoner of war. He attended Ohio University after being discharged and graduated in 1946 with an Economics degree. He then joined the family business, Universal Dry Cleaners in Lorain and worked as the Production Manager.

Budd enjoyed playing the harmonica and loved to volunteer. He was a member of the Lorain Rotary, Jolly 60′s, Good News Messengers, Elyria Men’s Fellowship, Amherst Athletic Boosters and helped time races for the Amherst Track team. Budd even found time to teach diving at the Amherst pool.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Lois (nee Peters); daughter, Cor Michaels (Ron “Ski”) of Amherst and niece, Jean Karnik.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Paul and Lottie (nee Frederick) Kleefeld; and brother, Charles.

Friends may call Monday, August 11, 2014 at the Busch Funeral Home, 114 Second St., Elyria, from 4 to 7 P.M. A funeral service will be held Tuesday, August 12, 2014 in the Cascade Room at the Wesleyan Village in Elyria at 9 A.M., with Reverend Beth McKee officiating. Interment and Military Honors will take place at Ridge Hill Memorial Park in Amherst.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to the Salvation Army, 716 Broad St., Elyria, OH 44035 or to the Ronald McDonald House, 10415 Euclid Ave., Cleveland, OH 44106.

Budd once painted the word “SMILE” on the roof of his house so anyone who passed by could see it and smile. When you think of Budd, remember to smile.
