ELYRIA — A Vermilion man who was jumped, beaten and robbed early Monday morning, made a desperate attempt to call 911 before one of his attackers smashed his phone.
Raheem Nelson, 18, and Tyler Guignette, 18, both from Elyria, were charged with robbery about 3:30 a.m. Monday, only 30 minutes after a Vermilion man told police he was beaten and robbed by the two teenagers.
The 37-year-old Vermilion man told police he was walking in the 400 block of Foster Avenue about 3 a.m. Monday when Nelson, Guignette and another teenager standing in the area started talking “junk” to him, according to a police report. The three teenagers followed the man and when he turned around, they lunged at him.
The teenagers then stole a bottle of cologne and $72 from the man’s pockets, according to the report.
With the description of the men, police found Nelson and Guignette less than an hour later, smelling of cologne and walking around the area of North West River Road.
The men were taken into custody and brought to Lorain County Jail where they remained on Monday evening.
