Florida man wandering Elyria streets charged with groping

Correction: Gary Roche is still being held at Lorain County Jail. This story originally indicated that Roche had been released on bond.

ELYRIA — A mumbling man with a criminal past was arrested early Sunday after he groped one woman and tried to solicit sexual acts from another, police said.

Gary Roche, 47, of Bradenton, Fla., was charged with solicitation and sexual imposition.

Police received two calls within an hour from women who had been approached by Roche early Sunday, Elyria police Capt. Chris Costantino said.

The first call came about 3:30 a.m. from a woman who told police she was in the Walgreens parking lot on Cleveland Street when Roche came up to her and asked her if he could touch her breasts for $40. The woman told him to leave her alone, and Roche left the area, Costantino said.

About 20 minutes later, police received a call from a clerk at a Sunoco gas station in the 600 block of Cleveland Street. The clerk told police she was restocking shelves alone in the station when Roche came in, “mumbling something,” and grabbed her breasts, Costantino said. The clerk quickly went behind the guarded counter where she called police as Roche left the station.

Officers found Roche at the Walgreens an hour after the second incident. Roche denied any involvement in the incidents, but both women identified him as the suspect, police said.

Police found that Roche was wanted by the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office for an incident when Roche drove under the influence of alcohol and crashed his car, Costantino said. The warrant, which was issued May 8 from the Florida State Attorney’s Office, seeks to charge Roche with failing to stop in a crash that resulted in a death, according to the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office.

Roche was taken to the Lorain County Jail, where he was being held. His next court appearance is scheduled for 9 a.m. Sept. 16 in Elyria Municipal Court.

He eventually will be sent to Florida to stand trial.

Hummm. . . . he fled Florida to escape arrest on charges involving a death and now after this incident in Elyria, they released him on bond — really? We’ll be commenting on this creep on the Sept. 17th when the CT reports he didn’t show up for court.

read the top of the article he still locked up

      • 2Cents

Yea, now it says that — not so when I made the comments.

        Thank you Anna.

he is on the lamb from Florida and they let him out on bond?

  • Otter

He will “eventually” be sent back to Florida? If they can find him, or just wait until he commits another crime.

Maybe somebody should let the Anna know. We’re just commenting what was reported.

          Yea, now it does!

Thanks for bringing this to our attention. There was some confusion over the information from the courts and the information from the jail. We’ve corrected it.

  • Bill

It does show he is still incarcerated in the Lorain County jail. The mix up regarding this story probably came when initially the 2 charges were listed as one. The soliciting charge now shows commitment pending examination.

Just give him a job at the TSA and he can get paid for his groping skills.

  • Bill Love

what’s funny is you guys are complain about this guy getting out of jailwhat are you guys could argue about yesterday was Obama phonesnot the fact that a guy who beat up a mentally handicapped person that made him rape another guy getting out of jail

  • Sis Delish

This guy is taking a page out of the Ed FitzGerald playbook?

  • Piltdown_Man

This guy presents a danger to himself and those around him. Lucky that he lost track of his car. He is also likely a perverted, wet-brain drunk. We need him locked up and shipped back to Florida.

  • Jamie Smith

Well at least he was NOT released on bond here in Elyria and will be shipped to Florida to face those charges there. Nuttin like spending the Holiday in the county jail.
