AVON LAKE – Since 2010, the cities of Avon and Avon Lake have teamed up under the spirit of friendly rivalry to collect food during the annual SOUPer Bowl.

A competitive food drive Friday collects canned goods and cash for Avon/Avon Lake Community Resource Services to help replenish the food pantry’s shelves.

CRS collection trucks representing Avon and Avon Lake will set up at Avon Lake High School Memorial Stadium, 175 Avon Belden Road, at p.m., an hour before the Avon versus Avon Lake football game.

CRS requests those wishing to donate bring non-perishable items. Items most needed include peanut butter, cereal, canned meats, fruit and paper products.

Monetary donations also are accepted, and every dollar contributed will count as five pounds. A trophy will be awarded to the community with the heaviest truck. There also are drop-off locations throughout Avon and Avon Lake including all schools. For more information, call CRS at 933-5639.
