Man accused of filming his daughter showering

VERMILION – A man who may have set up a camera system to watch his daughter showering denied any knowledge of the crime, according to police.

The 50-year-old Vermilion man, whose name is being withheld to protect the identity of his daughter, was charged with voyeurism on Thursday at his home after his wife found a suspicious document on a flash drive under his bed.

The wife told police she started looking for evidence Thursday because she thought her husband might be cheating on her, according to a police report.

That’s when she found a flash drive in a box in the bedroom she and her husband shared. On the flash drive, a document titled “a little look,” described how the husband had made a “peephole” in the family bathroom to watch his 20-year-old daughter showering, according to the report. After creating the “peephole,” the man set up a camera system in the bathroom to record his daughter, according to the report.

The man’s wife searched the bathroom where she found a hidden camera system in a light fixture, police said. On the flash drive, she found nude photos of her daughter in the bathroom, according to police.

Police took the camera and flash drive as evidence and arrested the man when he returned home from work Thursday evening, according to the report.

He denied knowing anything about the camera and refused to answer more questions after police confronted him with the flash drive document.

The man was taken to Lorain County Jail, where he was held without bond Friday. His next court appearance is on Tuesday at Vermilion Municipal Court.

Wow, this is sick…….this guy was watching his own daughter?

  • Mechele Gober

So glad the mother took action! What a sick man. Kind of makes you wonder how long he’s been doing this.

  • Pat Holbrook

the sick %^&* needs to go back to West Virginia

  • Don Grantzki

Pat, Who’s to say he set the camera up? Seeing as how the event took place in Ohio, wouldn’t his wife share suspicion?

  • BuckSnorts Rush

Convicted before the facts are known… You tools are embarrassing… Especially considering the “source” of this info…

  • BuckSnorts Rush

This is the same newspaper that had that Gaughan man convicted of being drunk, when in truth, the guy had a concussion…

  • Andrew Holland

Maybe the woman set him up? He isn’t guilty yet.

    • Average Joe

      I second that!

    Byron Rutledge

The mothers story seems a bit off to me, regardless of who did it, there is a young girl here who has been violated. I hope the responsible party will be locked up, for a very long time……………..

peephole” in the family bathroom to watch his 20-year-old daughter showering, according to the report.

How is 20 a young girl? Did you even read the story?

      • Otter

20 = young, as in not middle aged, not old.
        female = girl.
Did you read the part where the wife was looking for evidence that he was cheating on her, and that she found, a flash drive that had a document on it describing how he made the peephole? Just doesn’t make sense to me,that some one would document how they made the peephole, but maybe it does to a pervert.
I see two different possibilities here…
        1) The husband did it, for which her should be hung by the cocoa puffs
        2) The mother is pissed off, because her husband is cheating, and attempting a very sick form of revenge, for which she should be locked up for a very long time.
I will wait to pass judgement until the police are done investigating.
I feel sorry for the daughter, because she didn’t deserve any of this.

        • Average Joe

The wife could be making it up too!

        • tickmeoff

I’m with you Otter. People should keep an open mind till all the evidence is in.I bet this was the most read story today.

      • reset

She is an adult so you can get her name by the freedom of information act

  • Jeff

WTF is going on with all the perv’s lately?? SMH

  • Heather Sorg

Sounds sick, but innocent until proven otherwise. For all we know, his wife could have set him up.

    • Average Joe

  • Chan

John Demirijian where are you? This is the type of sick crimes that “your people” are known to do. Sexually stimulated by your own child.

  • Patty Siniard Doman

    Disgusting ,his own child .

    • Average Joe

He is not guilty yet. Thanks!

      • DJ Dell

Sounds like a lot of pervs defending a perv. Not too many other explanations if its really on video. Its pretty rare women would drill holes in walls and videotape their daughters naked for any reason.

        • Otter

Funny, I don’t see any one defending the “perv” What I see is (some) people who aren’t rushing to judgement. I would think it would also be rare for a father to drill holes in walls, and take nude photo’s of their daughter. Any way you look at it, the innocent party is the one we should be concerned about.

  • brenda

What no witty comments from the gang…..Rather she was young or old that is still his child….and if you read it correctly he stopped talking after they confronted him with the flash drive… what does that say……or he’s not dark enough to be called any witty names.

  • Kim

Gee whiz, I guess you really don’t know anyone, and can’t trust anyone!
How awful for his wife and daughter.
    Just sickening!

  • Jamie Smith

What a wonderful Mother this daughter has, This daughter will need the love and support of this strong lady who did the right thing. This man is very sick !!! Prayer’s to these Ladies.

    • Average Joe

      Do you know this man?

  • Guest

    His name is

    Byron Rutledge,

    Lorain county jail roster, duh!

    • Scout

Duh was this necessary? The Chronicle didn’t print his name to protect the young lady’s privacy, but you had to throw a name out there. Shame on you.

      • LAB1660

It may not have been “necessary,” but the name is public record because the jail roster is public record. Not everything can be squelched unless by court order.

        • Otter

Just because you “can”, doesn’t mean you should.

  • Scout

This story raises a lot more questions than it answers. Hopefully the Chronicle will report and update.
One question, if you are going to hide something why would you hide it under the bed in a room you share with someone else?

    • shadow

Well, lots of these pervs are not smart. That’s why so many of them are in jail. If he didn’t do it he can say so in court. Whoever did it is just plain sick, but I think dad’s going down for a long time.

    • Otter

And wouldn’t you be able to see a camera hidden in a light fixture,as soon as you turned the light on?

  • me101

I have a problem with her having to justify why she was looking around (she thought he was having an affair). Why does she need a reason to look through anything in her home? Maybe to support the story? I find it odd. A good attorney is going to ask if it wasn’t her that set him up…she already said they were having problems!

  • saltydog77

Ah, the court of public opinion. This young woman could be his daughter by marriage and not his biologically. Also a possibility, however remote that the wife set him up and he may have watched enough “police dramas” on tv to learn the less said the better. At least wait till he has been convicted b4 you roast him.
