ELYRIA — Police said an Elyria man was driving over the speed limit when his car hit a curb, flipped over and caught fire on Saturday afternoon.

Clint Baumiller, 33, was flown to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland where he remained in serious to stable condition Saturday afternoon after he was thrown from his car in a one-vehicle crash.

According to police, Baumiller was southbound on East Avenue about noon Saturday when he hit a curb near the intersection of 16th Street. His car flipped, landed on its hood in the road and caught fire, according to police.

The crash threw Baumiller out of the car, police said.

Officers responded to find one passerby giving Baumiller medical attention while another was trying to put out the flames in the car.

The idiot ran a fully red light (at least 5 seconds) at East Ave and Fourth Streets at about 70MPH, passing cars, and gaining speed. I knew he would not be able to make the curve where he crashed. Lucky he didn’t kill someone. Lock him up, throw away the key.

  • Scout

    Holy smokes!
Along these lines, has anyone noticed more and more people are running red lights? I wait at intersections now before pulling out on the green light-just in case.

    • Otter

Holly crap yes… I counted 4 cars ahead of me one day, on Broad St., crossing 57….all of them went right through the red light, not yellow…red. I wait at green lights too, but inevitably someone will blow their horn, and pound on their steering wheel…they make me laugh, they look so stupid sitting there pounding on their steering wheel. (and probably cussing)

      • The Chief

This all started back when they changed the timing of the lights , now you get stopped by nearly every single light

To any person on this page does not need to call anyone names I do not need ur negative comments…….not one of u guys including the news knows what happen here……so ur opinion is not welcomed…….let’s make if very clear if u had any heart would sit down n pray u do not kno what happen at that wheel…….so make that clear…..

    • popo

driving way to fast for posted speed limit. i was there on my porch and watched it all….

    • The Chief

So why don’t you enlighten us , why was he endangering everyone on the road not to mention kids playing in the area.

    • HankKwah

This should probably be the last place you ought to be concerned about. Lord knows most of us pray the driver survives but, judging from the article and eyewitnesses, he was doing something he shouldn’t have been doing. Unless this was a case of a medical issue. But if you know, rather than ranting at everyone, you could tell us what happened.

    • Dustin Sidley

if you had any brain you wouldnt sit down and pray moron

“not one of u guys including the news knows what happen here ”
You mean other than the 2 eye witnesses above and the 1 below?

  • Mal

He had to be doing at least 80mph. My fiance and kids were in front of him. He could’ve hit them. My fiance did stop and assist him along with the other lady. We pray that he has a speedy recovery.

  • FoodForThought63

What if his pedal was stuck? Just saying that could be a possibility.

    • HankKwah

Shift to neutral, brake, park, turn off the ignition.

    • The Chief

he could not of turned the key off ?

  • brenda

Not everyone will think to say ok I’ll put my car in neutral and turn off the engine so tht I can stop or throw the car in park so I can stop. When you are spinning out of control and your car is flipping oh I’ll just throw my car in neutral that’ll make me stop flipping. And if he was having a medical issue he should have stopped when he felt as though he didn’t feel right. All in all I pray that he will be ok and if he was speeding just to be speeding that he gets what he deserves.

  • Tammy

Lisa we are praying for a fast and speedy recovery for your brother if there’s anything we can do for you you just let us know give us a call if we can help
