William L. Carter, 82, of Sullivan, passed away Monday, September 1, 2014 at Hospice of North Central Ohio in Ashland. He was born October 18, 1931, in Akron, grew up in Hiltons, Virginia and lived several years in Cleveland.
He graduated from Berea College in Berea, Kentucky with a Political Science degree and went on to become a chemist. He worked for Witco as a chemist and later as an Operations Manager, where he retired. William served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. William was a member of the Huntington AMVETS.
In addition to gardening and taking care of his fruit trees he enjoyed golfing, fishing, playing volleyball, reading and listening to music. William treasured spending time with his family.
He is survived by his children, Shawn Carter of North Olmsted, Shane (Kristin) Carter of Sullivan, Kerry (Tom) McMahon of Nova, Megan Carter of Coconut Creek, Florida, Morgan Carter of Plain City, Stacey (Brian) Herring of Boca Raton, Florida and Casey Carter of Olympia, Washington; and grandchildren, Autumn Carter, John McMahon, Shelby Collett, David Carter, Molly Herring and Ellie Herring.
William was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Ann Carter; son, Kelly Carter; parents, Burt and Mollie Carter; and sisters, JoAnn and Mary.
Friends may call from 6 P.M. until the time of an 8 P.M. service Thursday, September 4, 2014, with Dwayne Davis presiding at Norton-Eastman Funeral Home, 370 S. Main St., Wellington.
