BEREA – The Browns cut 14 players today, including two kickers, as they trimmed their roster to the regular-season limit of 53.
Veteran kicker Shayne Graham’s contract was terminated and rookie Brandon Bogotay was waived. The Browns don’t have a kicker on the roster, but will add one in the next few days.
Coach Rob Chudzinski said he wasn’t worried about adding a strange face at kicker and said the team could hold workouts in the next couple of days. He also didn’t rule out Graham or Bogotay returning.
Dan Carpenter, 27, is a possibility. He spent the last five seasons with the Dolphins, but was cut during camp. He then made pit-stops in Arizona and with the New York Jets but was cut by both.
He made 82 percent of his field goals with the Dolphins, 127 of 155.
The other players waived were: offensive lineman Aaron Adams, cornerback Akeem Auguste, linebacker Justin Cole, running back Jamaine Cook, defensive lineman Hall Davis, receiver Tori Gurley, linebacker James-Michael Johnson, receiver David Nelson, receiver Naaman Roosevelt, defensive lineman Brian Sanford, safety Jamoris Slaughter and linebacker Justin Staples.
The Browns also placed receiver Josh Gordon on the reserve/suspended list.
The Browns have three quarterbacks, four running backs (including tight end/fullback Brad Smelley), four receivers, three tight ends, 12 offensive linemen, seven defensive linemen, 10 linebackers, eight defensive backs and two specialists.
The Browns aren’t done making moves and are expected to be active on the waiver wire.
“It’s a fluid situation,” Chudzinski said. “This is our roster on Aug. 31, not on Sept. 8.”
That’s when the Browns open the regular season against the Dolphins.
