Lorain assistant chief says car fire was arson

LORAIN — A car fire in Lorain on Wednesday night was started with combustible liquid, according to Lorain Assistant Fire Chief Jeff Fenn.

About 11:30 p.m., police and the fire personnel responded to the 600 block of West 13th Street where a parked 2003 Pontiac Aztec was engulfed in flames, according to Fenn.

The fire started after an unknown suspect threw a piece of sandstone through the closed passenger’s side window. The suspect then covered the interior of the car in combustible liquid and lit it on fire, Fenn said.

The car was a total loss. There are no named suspects in the arson case.
