UPDATE: Suspect remains on loose following two-county pursuit

A suspect remained on the loose Friday night after police searched Lorain County for several hours following a pursuit from Cleveland.

The car chase began in the area of West 32nd Street and Lorain Avenue in Cleveland at around 5:30 p.m. Friday and turned into a pursuit on foot when the suspect’s car, a burgundy four-door Honda, crashed into a mailbox at 36060 state Route 57.

Cleveland police said the suspect is Angel David Santana Maisonet, 44, who is wanted for aggravated robbery and is a suspect in several other aggravated robberies. He had been seen in the area earlier in the day and broadcasts to check the area for the suspect or vehicle were repeated throughout the day prior to the chase.

According to police, officers located the suspect’s vehicle and attempted to stop it in Cleveland, but the driver refused to stop. Stop sticks were deployed by the North Ridgeville Police Department and the Ohio State Highway Patrol and were effective in deflating all of the tires on the vehicle, but Maisonet continued to drive at a low rate of speed.

After crashing into a mailbox near the intersection of state routes 57 and 83 in Grafton Township, Maisonet allegedly ran into a wooded area on foot, losing a shoe when he bailed from the vehicle.

The area in which the suspect was last seen was searched extensively by officers and canines from multiple agencies, but he was not located, according to a news release from Cleveland police.

Approximately two dozen police car were involved in the chase and subsequent hunt for the suspect. Law enforcement departments involved included Lorain County Sheriff’s Office, Cuyahoga County Sheriff, Grafton Police, Ohio State Highway Patrol and Medina County Sheriff.

Maisonet was last seen wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt and khaki pants. Police said he is possibly armed with a handgun.
