Bomb threat called into Elyria bank branch

ELYRIA — An anonymous bomb threat made to a bank Friday led to a 45-minute police search that turned up nothing.

About 10:30 a.m. Friday, a manager at FirstMerit Bank at 248 N. Abbe Road told police she had just received an anonymous phone call from someone who claimed there was a bomb in the bank. When she tried to ask the caller questions about the bomb, the caller hung up, Elyria police Capt. Chris Costantino said.

Police searched the bank for almost an hour but couldn’t find any evidence of a bomb, Costantino said.

Costantino said that the Elyria bank threat is under investigation and if anyone has information on the incident, they can call Elyria police at 323-3302.
