LORAIN — A man is facing felonious assault and domestic violence charges after his live-in girlfriend was treated at the hospital for serious injuries.
Police were called to the couple’s home on Euclid Avenue at 10:17 a.m. Friday after the woman, Sarah Smart, 31, reported that she had been assaulted.
Police arrived at a home across the street to find Smart with injuries to her face and buttocks, according to a police report. She told police that her boyfriend, Chad Pruchnicki, had hit her in the head with a glass shelf from an entertainment center.
Smart was then taken to Mercy Regional Medical Center for treatment, according to the report.
Pruchnicki, 41, was still at the home. He told police that he found Smart engaged in sexual intercourse with his friend, and he admitted to a verbal fight with Smart, but he said he was unaware of how she was injured.
Police said Pruchnicki’s friend had reportedly fled, and he was unable to be located and interviewed. Pruchnicki appeared to have consumed alcohol and he admitted to drinking four beers. There was broken glass on the living room floor, according to police.
Pruchnicki was arrested and charged with domestic violence, and he was taken to the city jail. He also was charged with felonious assault due to the extent of Smart’s injuries.
Police said Smart was transferred to MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland for a broken orbital bone, cracked ribs and bruises.
