ELYRIA —Three teenagers are facing charges in connection with a suspected arson Monday that destroyed a vacant house, a car and a motorcycle.
Sheriff’s deputies took three boys — ages 13, 14 and 15 — into custody Tuesday. Detective Sgt. Randal Koubeck said deputies were looking for a possible fourth suspect.
The vacant house, at 9372 Fowl Road, burst into flames about 5 p.m. Monday. A neighbor saw four teenage boys, including the three in custody, running north on Fowl Road, about that time.
According to Koubeck, one of the boys was caught while trying to run away and gave deputies the names of the other boys involved.
Amherst, Elyria Township, South Amherst, Florence Township and Oberlin fire departments all responded and had the fire controlled about 6 p.m.
The blaze destroyed a 1990 Corvette and a Harley-Davidson motorcycle, Koubeck said.
Police are investigating the cause of the fire.
The teenage boys were not charged as of Tuesday afternoon. They were held at the Lorain County Juvenile Detention Home on Tuesday.
Lenny Price, who moved into his home at 9300 Fowl Road next to the house in 2007, said the fire melted the siding on the south side of his house. Price said Tuesday a damage estimate hasn’t been completed.
“This was what we called paradise until this happened,” he said.
