Driver flees after car crashes into Lorain house

LORAIN — After a car slid off the road and hit a vacant house Monday morning, a witness saw a man running from the scene, police said.

About 7 a.m., police responded to the 400 block of West 28th Street where someone had driven off the road in a Chevy Impala and hit a house, police said. Officers were looking for the driver.

The driver was traveling westbound on West 28th and slid off the road while trying to make a right turn onto Lexington Avenue, said Lorain Police Officer Robert Hargreaves.

The car slid sideways and traveled about 70 feet before crashing into the house, destroying a porch and some foundation.

“It looks like a patio now,” Hargreaves said of the damage to the porch.
