Grafton couple sentenced in burglary string

MEDINA — A Grafton couple were sent to prison Monday for their involvement in a six-month string of burglaries in Liverpool Township last year.

Common Pleas Judge Christopher J. Collier sentenced Jerimiah Covey, 36, to 15 years in prison on Monday for 11 counts of burglary, second-degree felonies punishable by up to eight years in prison each.

Common Pleas Judge James L. Kimbler sentenced his wife, 30-year-old Shannon Covey, to three years in prison last month on three similar charges.

A Medina County grand jury indicted the couple in November 2013 after county sheriff’s deputies tracked down their vehicle, which was spotted near the scene of an attempted robbery in Granger Township. Officers reported finding items reported stolen in the vehicle.

Jerimiah Covey pleaded guilty in June. His wife was convicted after pleading no contest in February.

Police said the couple were connected to as many as 13 burglaries in Liverpool Township in 2013, but said a second group of burglars may have been targeting the same area.
