LORAIN — A man who left his 3-year-old child with the child’s ailing, sleeping grandmother was frantic when he returned from his neighbor’s house and found the child missing Saturday.
After a search through the house and neighborhood, police found the child and charged the father, 21-year-old Hector Sanchez, with child endangerment Saturday.
Police arrived at Sanchez’s house at the 500 block of West 20th Street about noon Saturday to find a hysterical Sanchez looking for his 3-year-old son, who had been left in the house, according to a police report.
Police searched the house, including one of the rooms where a chemical bomb recently had been used to get rid of bedbugs, but could not find the child, according to the report.
The grandmother told police she was asleep in the house when Sanchez woke her up to look for the child. She said she was sick and not responsible for the toddler, according to the report.
Sanchez told police he had left the child in the house with the child’s grandmother while he went “around the corner” to help a friend but refused to provide additional details, police said.
The boy was found in the 600 block of West 18th Street, and Sanchez told the toddler, “you can’t do this anymore,” according to a report.
Police took Sanchez into custody for child endangerment and took him to the Lorain City Jail.
