Get active this weekend at the Lakeview Beach Paddle and Pedal Fest! Learn more about paddling skills, paddling equipment, how to prepare for a paddling trip, local Lorain County water recreation destinations, and NEW this year…..bicycle safety and cycling activities!

PADDLE!– At the beach, try kayaks, canoes and stand-up paddleboards for FREE. Pre-registration is not required for demo area, but you must sign a waiver at the waiver station. Solo paddlers must be at least 9 years of age and with adult supervision. Younger aged paddlers are welcome to go out with an adult in a tandem kayak or canoe. Boats are being provided by West River Paddle Sports, LoCo Yaks, and Great Lakes Kayaking.
The Lorain County Metro Parks Smartstart Kayaking classes will also be available on the beach! These classes will be taught by certified American Canoe Association instructors at 11:30am, 12:30pm, and 1:30pm. Pre-register for classes by calling 1-800-LCM-PARK or at www.metroparks.cc! Noon-1:00 pm & 2:00 -3:00 pm – “How to Pick Your Gear,” LoCo Yaks
1-2pm – “SUP Basics,” West River Paddle Sports
PEDAL!– NEW this year, try out pedaling along with paddling! At Paddle and Pedal Fest, FREE kid-sized bike helmets will be given out first come-first serve as a part of the American Academy of Pediatrics “Put a Lid on It” campaign. Lorain County Metro Parks Rangers and Silver Wheels Cycling Club will be on-hand to teach about bike safety. Families are encouraged to bring their own bikes to this event. Bicycle safety has been added to this event in collaboration with the Creating Healthy Communities Program conducted through the Lorain County General Health District. Through Creating Healthy Communities funding, new bicycle racks and “Share The Road” signage will be installed at Lakeview Park. Keep an eye out for more information about Share The Road this summer!
At Paddle and Pedal Fest families can enjoy the festival atmosphere through live music by “Less Than 88” and visit food vendors that will be available. A kid’s fun area will also be set-up on the beach.
