Nord foundation hands out grants worth $1.3M

AMHERST - The Nord Family Foundation recently announced the recipients of grants in the areas of health and social services, education, civic affairs and arts.

The grants, totaling more than $1.3 million, were approved at the Foundation`s Board of Trustees meeting late last month.

The grants will be dispersed to nonprofit organizations in Lorain and Cuyahoga counties; Columbia, S.C.; Denver, Colo.; and Boston.

GRANTS FOR LORAIN COUNTY NONPROFITS

Arts and Culture:

- CityMusic Cleveland, in support of the 2007/2008 concert series in Elyria - $5,000

- Opera Cleveland, continued support of Music! Opera! Outreach in Lorain County Schools - $35,000

- Firelands Association of the Visual Arts, Oberlin - $55,000

Civic Affairs

- Common Ground, continued support of general operations, over two years - $100,000

- Direct Action for Central Lorain, continued support of affordable housing and redevelopment efforts - $50,000

- Junior Acheivement of Lorain County Inc. - $11,636

- Lorain County Alcohol and Drug Abuse Services, Inc. - $30,000

- Lorain County Urban League, Elyria, continued support of general operations - $35,000

- South Elyria Neighborhood Development Corp., Elyria - $46,000

- South Lorain Community Development Corp. - $35,000

- South Shore Community Development Corp., Lorain - $50,000

- Zion Community Development Corp. - $30,000

Education

- Town Hall of Cleveland, support of the Student and Distance Learning Programs for Lorain County students - $8,000

Health and Social Services

- Child Care Resource Center, support of the Child Development Association Academy - $30,000

- Easter Seal Society of Northwestern Ohio, Inc., Lorain, to hire a Vice President of Programs - $20,000

- Linking Employment, Abilities and Potential, to provide Independent living support for seniors with low vision - $22,500

- Lorain County Free Clinic, Inc. - $55,000

- Neighborhood House Association of Lorain County Inc., start-up for child care center at Elyria Neighborhood Center - $25,000

- Oberlin Community Services Council, Oberlin, for general operating support - $30,000

- Pathways Counseling and Growth Center, Elyria, in support of Project Access - $10,000
