Firefighters from around Lorain County have been called to a fire at the Ohio Edison plant in downtown Lorain.
Thick black smoke billowed from the back of the massive plant near Oberlin and West Erie avenues and could be seen for miles. That was followed by white smoke.
The smoke had subsided, and the fire appeared to be under control in a matter of minutes, but firefighters continued to shuttle water from nearby hydrants.
The plant is for the most part unused.
