HINCKLEY TWP. — An employee of Allied Waste Services from Elyria was struck by a vehicle while on the job Monday morning in Medina County.
James Lennerth, 31, was crossing in front of his garbage truck to collect a trash bin on the side of the road when a gold Dodge Caliber traveling east swerved around the truck and struck him about 6:45 a.m. in the 1800 block of Bellus, according to Hinckley Township Sgt. Bruce Linville.
Lennerth was flown by emergency helicopter to Cleveland MetroHealth Medical Center. He was treated and released this morning, according to a hospital spokesperson said.
Linville said Lennerth had some visible facial and head lacerations. An on-scene medic noted Lennerth was “talking but appeared confused and disoriented” prior to the arrival of the helicopter.
The driver of the car that struck Lennerth, a 23-year-old Brunswick woman, is not likely to be cited. She did not commit a driving violation, Linville said.
It is not against the law to pass a stationary garbage truck on the road that has no double-yellow line, the sergeant said.
