ELYRIA — A Cleveland man accused of raping a 67-year-old woman in her Lorain home earlier this year pleaded not guilty Thursday.
Jeremiah Charlton, 52, remains in custody at the Lorain County Jail, according to court records.
The victim told police that she had been mowing her lawn on May 28 when Charlton approached her and began talking to her. He allegedly promised to treat her sick dog and then massaged the animal before trying to remove the woman’s housecoat.
The woman then went upstairs and Charlton allegedly raped her after she came out of the bathroom.
The woman’s son and daughter came home after the alleged attack and found Charlton, who was wearing medical scrubs, sitting on a couch in the living room. Charlton wrote down his name and number and left it with the children before leaving.
Police used the number to track him, and when he was confronted he told officers that the sex with the woman had been consensual.
