VERMILION — A Vermilion man who is in Erie County Jail awaiting trial for allegedly touching an 11-year-old girl inappropriately was hospitalized after allegedly being assaulted by another inmate Thursday.
Police said Eddie Frederick, who was jailed Saturday on a gross sexual imposition charge, called jail staff to report he had been assaulted by another inmate around 12:24 p.m. Thursday. Frederick had a broken eye socket, according to an Erie County sheriff’s report, and he was taken to Firelands Regional Medical Center for treatment.
Frederick, 48, of 479 Linden Ave., was arrested after he admitted to stimulating himself while touching an 11-year-old girl who was asleep at his house. The girl reported the incident to her parents after waking up to find Frederick naked and touching her.
Inmate Jory Hall, 23, of Sandusky, was charged with felonious assault for the alleged assault on Frederick.
According to the sheriff’s report, Frederick was reading the newspaper when he spotted an article about his charges and cut it out of the paper.
Frederick told police Hall confronted him about the damaged newspaper and then punched him in the face several times, knocking him
unconscious, according to the report.
Frederick told deputies he regained consciousness after hitting his head on the bunk and was able to fend off Hall, who reportedly said, “You better roll your (expletive) up and get out of here.”
Hall agreed to speak with police and admitted to hitting Frederick, but denied punching him. He said Frederick threw the first punch.
Police said, when questioned further about the alleged assault, Hall referenced Frederick’s charges.
“(Hall said) Frederick is a child molester and does not belong in general population,” the report stated. “He continued that everyone wanted to ‘mess up’ Frederick, but he (Hall) was the only one that did anything about it.”
Hall is in jail for a domestic violence charge and for back fines. He was arraigned Friday on the additional felonious assault charge.
Frederick was arraigned Tuesday in Vermilion Municipal Court where he entered a plea of not guilty. A preliminary hearing is scheduled on Tuesday.
Erie County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Jared Oliver said Frederick has been moved to a separate housing area after the assault.
