ELYRIA — Elyria Schools is adding to its security system in the wake of Connecticut’s elementary school shooting Friday, but district spokeswoman Amy Higgins is mum on the details.
Higgins said heightened security measures are district-wide, but she did not want to reveal details of the district’s plan, so as not to tip-off the public.
“The district is taking all precautions to heighten security… It’s reinforcing to parents that their children are safe,” she said.
Higgins said staff members are also continually trained on the school’s safety measures, and the district cooperates with local police. She said it’s important not to circulate rumors but to report any threats to school officials.
“If parents hear of threats or see anything unusual, they absolutely must report that information to us,” she said. “Their information can be kept confidential.”
