LORAIN — A Lorain man is accused of beating his 88-year-old mother because she wouldn’t give him money for drugs.
Katherine Hartsel, who police said had a bruise on her left knee, said her son, Scott Hartsel, punched her in the left shoulder and knee on Jan. 11, according to a police report. Katherine Hartsel and her other son, Timothy Hartsel, contacted police Friday after Katherine Hartsel said Scott Hartsel raised a clenched fist at her and she feared he would hit her.
The family said Scott Hartsel is a drug addict who wanted money to get high.
Scott Hartsel admitted to punching his mother and said he threatened her, “because she kept nagging him.”
Hartsel said he smoked marijuana Wednesday and crack cocaine two weeks ago. Scott Hartsel, 54, of the 4200 block of Charleston Avenue, was arrested and charged with assault and domestic violence. Police said he was convicted of domestic violence in Medina in 2007.
Hartsel was being held Sunday at Lorain City Jail without bond and is due in Lorain Municipal Court on Tuesday.
