AVON — A fire caused about $150,000 damage to a house at 1325 Moore Road early Sunday, but no injuries, according to fire Capt. Mike Emling.
The fire was called in at 2:08 a.m., Emling said. When firefighters arrived around 2:14 a.m., smoke and flames were coming from an attic in an addition to the home. The two residents were alerted to the fire by smoke detectors and were outside.
The fire occurred above a wood burning stove in a living room that spread to the attic and the roof of the garage and ceiling of the living room. Emling said the fire was knocked down quickly but wasn’t controlled until about 3:30 a.m. because it was difficult to locate flames in the tight attic space.
“They were just chasing it between two rooms, (but) it was a good stop,” he said. “They saved a lot of property.”
Firefighters from Avon Lake, Elyria Township, North Ridgeville, Sheffield Lake, Sheffield and Westlake assisted in extinguishing the blaze. The cause of the fire remained under investigation Sunday. The area where the fire occurred was boarded up and the residents were able to continue living in the home, Emling said.
