ELYRIA — Police are investigating a shooting in which a 57-year-old woman was shot in the leg near 419 16th Street.
At 11:30 p.m. Monday, officers were sent to the woman’s home on Riverside Drive. The victim, Kim Holston, told police she dropped a friend off after work and stopped her car near the 400 block of 16th Street after her coat strap got stuck in the door.
Holston said she stopped her car and got out to clean off her floor mat when she “observed a red light bouncing on the street near her.”
Holston said she then heard four popping sounds that sounded like fireworks and a flash of light from a vacant house nearby. She said she drove away and felt a cramp in her leg, and she realized she had been shot.
According to a police report, Holston drove home, and her husband called 911. Holston told police she had no enemies and did not see who had shot her.
Police said Holston had a single gunshot wound from a large caliber bullet in her upper thigh. She was treated and released from EMH Regional Medical Center in Elyria.
Elyria police Capt. Chris Costantino said police have no suspects, but he called the case “high priority” for the police department. Anyone with information is asked to call the Elyria Police Department.
