Friday, April 5
8:56 a.m. — 600 block East River St., EMH Elyria Regional Medical Center, a male patient said he was in the common room to eat breakfast when another male patient came into the room and began putting his nose in other people’s food. When the second male patient attempted to smell the other patient’s food, he put his hands up and told him to “back off.” He was then punched in the forehead. The second male patient told officers he went to the common room to eat breakfast and someone “had taken his tray to he was trying to see who had his tray.”
Noon — 100 block Cleveland St., Save-a-Lot, John Young, 48, 5100 block Jaycox Road, North Ridgeville, was given a theft citation after allegedly placing $82.10 worth of steaks in a shopping cart and pushing it out the door without paying for the items. The steaks were returned to the store.
2:15 p.m. — Second Street and East Avenue, Evan M. Gause, 20, 100 block Neufer Court, Elyria, was charged with tampering with evidence, having weapons while under disability, possession of marijuana, possession of crack cocaine and carrying a concealed weapon.
5:51 p.m. — 200 block Market Drive, Target, a security officer observed a white male subject acting suspicious placing numerous handfuls of DVDs into a Target tote. The man continued through the store and made a phone call while in the food section. The security officer attempted to stop the subject, but he turned around and walked to the rear of the department store. Once there, the subject grabbed the tote and exited through fire doors. Photographs were taken of the subject placing the items into his tote and leaving the building without paying for the merchandise. An officer then interviewed the manager of Record Exchange and learned a man entered the store and exchanged approximately 17 DVDs. The store turned over the DVDs and they were placed in evidence.
Saturday, April 6
3:10 a.m. — Persons Court, Gilbert Mitchell, 39, 100 block Lowell St., Elyria, was charged with possession of heroin and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was also issued a traffic citation for OVI, OVI-test refusal, DUS ORC and reasonable control. Mitchell allegedly struck a building at the intersection of Lake Avenue and Oak Street. While en route to the scene, officers learned that Mitchell began walking away from the accident and denied being involved in a motor vehicle accident. The vehicle Mitchell was driving had struck a utility pole, downing a wire and then continued into the parking lot and struck the building at 938 Lake Ave.
Friday, April 5
7:26 a.m. — 3000 block Lowell Ave., criminal damage reported after the homeowner heard a loud noise on his roof. He later found a brick on his property.
9:50 a.m. — 1800 block Cooper Foster Park, a woman who was cleaning the grounds saw a man sitting on his bicycle, staring at her. He then moved to 1800 block South Nantucket and continued to stare at her. She asked if he needed help and screamed “No” and left. The woman then called her husband. She eventually went back to work and saw him sitting near her apartment. A maintenance crew arrived and he left. However, as she walked on the sidewalk, he came out of the driveway and yelled, “I am going to —— kill you —- for telling on me!” The woman then called 911. She informed the police that she has seen the man in the area before, but he never made contact with her. Officers arrived at the scene but were unable to find the man.
1:55 p.m. — 1300 block W. 5th St., Abraham Dowd, 40, same address, charged with domestic violence and felonious assault.
