ELYRIA — The victim of an apparent suicide around 3 p.m. Saturday in the parking lot of the Lorain County Sheriff’s Office has been identified.
Allan Joseph, 62, no address given, died of a shotgun blast to the upper torso, according to Dr. Stephen Evans, Lorain County coroner. Evans said Joseph is believed to have been despondent over the health of a family member. Evans said Joseph was a friend of county Sheriff Phil Stammitti and addressed a suicide note to Stammitti.
Stammitti and Chief Deputy Dennis Cavanaugh did not return calls Sunday. A sheriff’s office dispatcher would not say Sunday if a report on the incident was available.
